It has been a very good year for Phantogram. They released their critically acclaimed third album "Voices," embarked on world tour and quietly mined their way to becoming one of the biggest acts on The Music Nation Charts this year.
"Voices" - a collection of dark electronica meets trip-hop songs with Sarah Barthel's dreamy vocals and smart introspective lyrics. The album debuted at No. 1 on March 1st on The Music Nation's Top 100 Albums and racked up a total of 7 weeks in the top spot. At the end of the year, it was named both Album of the Year by The Music Nation and was No. 1 on The Music Nation's Top 100 Albums of 2014.
The lead single from the album "Black Out Days" actually did not chart until it was re-released after the second single "Fall In Love" became the Phantogram's breakthrough hit. "Fall In Love" climbed to No. 4 on The Music Nation's Top 100 Songs and hit the Top 5 on both the AirPlay 100 and Top 100 Videos charts. But it was "Black Out Days" that ruled the second half of the year racking up 10 weeks at No. 1 on both The Music Nation's Top 100 Songs and the AirPlay 100 Chart. It also racked up 9 weeks at No. 1 on The Music Nation's Top 100 Videos chart. It ended up as the No. 2 song of 2014 and No. 2 video of the year behind Katy Perry's "Dark Horse" on The Music Nation year-end charts. However, it was named Song of the Year and Video of the Year for the 2014 Music Nation Awards.
Phantogram was also honored with the Best Concert - Small Venue award. They played The Ritz in Ybor at the end of June and it was one of the most energetic shows driven by Sarah and Josh's high energy stage presence and a real connection with the sold out crowd there - so much, in fact, that Sarah was a little choked up at the beginning of the encore set from the absolute deafening roar of the fans at the show. The set was extraordinary that incited lots of dancing and fist pumping. And when then lights finally, came on, all you wanted was more.
Congrats to Phantogram for a great 2014 and an amazing album & videos. The follow-up to "Voices" will be anxiously awaited.
